Fast Fix for Worn Drawers
Make them work as good as new.
by Larry LeMasters

The drawers of older desks and dressers often ride on wooden runners, not slick metal slides. This wood-to-wood friction system works well enough, but over time the bottom edge of the drawer sides wears out and the drawer starts to tip down.

Rather than replacing the runners in the cabinet and splicing new wood onto the drawer sides, remove the drawer and press a large thumbtack down into the face frame on each side of the drawer opening. Slide the drawer back in so that it now rests on the thumbtacks. If it's still sitting too low, place a couple of thin cardboard shims under each thumbtack to raise the drawer.

Fleas and other bugs

*NEW- If you have fleas everywhere in your house, a good way to get rid of them is to create a soap water mixture. Place it below a light. The warmth seeking fleas will dive into the mixture. After a day, you will see a bowl full of suicide fleas! (anon)

*NEW - I have the solution to getting rid of fleas once and for all. Mix together 2 cups of borax powder (available at most hardware stores) and 2 cups of salt. I mix it together in a coffee can and then punch holes in the plastic top. Sprinkle it on your carpet and brush it in a little with a broom. Use a flea comb to get the fleas off of your pet. One application works for years. I have not had a flea on my pet for over ten years. I used to work for a pest control company so you just received a "trade secret" (Carolyn)

*NEW - There are a variety of natural ways to prevent fleas from infesting your cat. If you feed your cat soft food, try mixing some fresh minced garlic into the food. Also, you can put a small amount of white vinegar into your pets drinking water.  Also, one good way to prevent fleas is to feed your cat a healthy all natural diet.  (Chris W.)

*NEW - Buy  pet bedding with cedar chips. Cedar chips help repel fleas.

On pets: boil one lemon in some water, strain and pour into a spray bottle to spray your pet with.
